  intervarsity christian fellowship had their status changed because their beliefs do not allow for the diversity required of groups with campus privileges.

  access to community halls, dorms.. this will affect 23 campuses.

  in response intervarsity is claiming reverse discrimination and restricting freedom of speech.

  Jesus as a Ransom for Humans or not

  i have not got an answer (theoretical or not) to the above question.. but the main text book (introducing the new testament- its literature and theology - achtemeier, green and thompson) for my study unit (early christian literature and thought) in the assigned reading for today's lecture on the gospel of john, has a section on the ransom.

  it says (p. 237): one of the few passages that explicitly speaks of jesus dying for others is mark 10:45:.

  "for even the son of man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.. .

  Even as a child, the Ransom seemed weird. There is no way that Adam and Eve existed. It makes no sense to me. What if Adam and Eve were Neanderthal? Why is knowledge forbidden. How could any humans exist with no culture around them? God demands ransom. I refuse to worship that God.

  this sounds like the typical rank and file jw, it's actually a mental disorder, i and many others were once in this state.... delusional disorder is an uncommon psychiatric condition in which patients present with delusions, but with no accompanying prominent hallucinations, thought disorder, mood disorder, or significant flattening of affect.

  non-bizarre delusions are fixed false beliefs that involve situations that could potentially occur in real life; examples include being followed or poisoned.

  I flipped through DSM-V quickly. Apostates as a group are not mentally ill or deluded. Witnesses as a group are also not mentally ill or deluded. If we start throwing despicable language back, we are just as bad as the Witnesses GB. Lack of sophisticated or ignorance is not a mental illness.

  one of the jws foundational doctrines is their belief in the inerrancy of the bible.

  there are several methods they use to try and support this position including their claim that the bible, as it exists today, is the exact same bible that has been around for thousands of years.

  Bart Ehrman is a populizer of Christian studies. To focus only on Ehrman is not wise. There are so many scholars. Google Scholar has plenty of academic studies. Why is he being selected so much?

  new testament scholars seem pretty unanimous about it: paul's letters (epistles) are the earliest/ first christian writings.. scholars seem in pretty solid agreement the so-called gospels (matthew, mark, luke, john) came later.. i think few would disagree the writings of paul were extraordinarily impactful.. **.

  christians throughout the community of jesus followers were split on what was true and not true.. many did not approve of the teachings of paul (especially when paul told practising jews that the o.t.

  laws were abolished!).

  Now I clearly remember several sources in college that stated it is highly unlikely that Acts and Paul had the same author. Paul's genuine letters are considered written by Paul. Acts theology contradicts Paul's theology at several important points.

  I saw Dylan at the Concert for Bangladesh. The Village Voice had Dylan experts who claimed that he was on life support following his motocycle accident. Perhaps we could not believe our eyes. Dylan walking. Dylan performing. He did not want to be there. A few months later, I saw Dylan in a private solo concert. He should have paid me money. I talked recently to hard Bob fans. He is still calling in the concert from his phone. A friend gave me a DVD of Dylan in Newport. I could not believe my eyes He is so relaxed with the audience.

  I've never read that Acts introduces Paul. Perhaps I forgot. What I do recall is that all those named with Stephen have Greek names. It could explain why Paul's theology spread faster among Gentile Christians than Hebrew Christian.

  ok, at the risk of getting flamed, i have been out for over 20 years, and still love kingdom melodies.

  i remember them for the good times, the conventions and assemblies, hearing the orchestral versions, imagining the orchestra playing.

  some pieces were really nice.

  If you expose yourself to Renaissance Church music, chants, other religion's church music, you will probably find the Kingdom Melodies for the dreadful noise it is. Few Witnesses can sing notes. Organ music is great. Not electronic but real organ music is so beautiful. My gm was the last in my hall to be able to play an instrument. It is Episcopolians singing Negro spiritual and African-Americans singing spirituals. It gives me something to giggle about.It is
